The student group is ran by University of Manchester students and is open to all UK students.
Every Tuesday evening we meet up in small groups to discuss and challenge each other's views and ideas on a particular EA topic (usually based on a short talk or article we look at beforehand). There is a facilitator in each group to help keep the discussion lively and inclusive, and after the discussion, we all join back up to hang out.
We run socials every month, some themed, and others just a chance for people to meet up and get to know each other better. You can find all our socials on our facebook page, and we'll also notify you about them if you subscribe to our mailing list.
Once every semester we run a book club on an EA text. In the book club, small groups meet up to discuss a few chapters of the book, led by a facilitator. There is also a selection of socials across the duration of the club. Subscribe to our mailing list to get notified when the next one is starting!
Each month we run a speaker event, either featuring an external speaker, or someone from within our group talking about a cause area they are involved in. Sign up to our mailing list to hear about them!
Hi, I'm Tom and I'm the President this year. Over the year I'll be managing the committee, running our weekly discussion groups, and organising our speaker events. I study philosophy, and I'm particularly interested in longtermist cause areas as well as priorities research. Outside of EA I enjoy competitive debating, squash, and playing in my jazz band. Feel free to get in touch with me on Facebook if you have any questions about EAManchester, my cause areas, or just want to chat.
Hi I’m Dana and I’m responsible for society communications. That means you’ll get my weekly email updates and Facebook posts. I’m interested in developing clean meat technology and am pursuing research in developing lab-made leather products. Outside of EA I enjoy performing stand-up comedy and making super-unhealthy cakes.

Hi, I’m Seán and I’m the current Treasurer of EA Manchester. I also manage some of our outreach and create designs for our events on social media. I study philosophy and am particularly interested in ethics and animal welfare as an EA cause area. Beyond EA I like to write poetry and go for long walks where all the best thinking gets done!
Hi! I’m Mario and I am the Secretary of the Society. I keep the records of committee meetings, help with outreach and generally keep everything organised. I study Philosophy along with Tom, and my main interest within EA is how to build a critical and open mindset that helps yourself and others to flourish. Besides that, I like to play the violin, read good books, and have a vodka when there is one.
Hi I'm Ayham. I am a second year materials science undergrad and I made this beautiful website. Coming from the Middle East I feel really strongly about international development as a cause area. Outside of EA I like getting involved with all the engineering and programming projects within and outside of the university as well managing the course football team.
Hi I'm Hannah, I'm a first year studying International Disaster Management. I help coordinate some of the general society bits and bobs like facilitating the book club and weekly discussion groups. In my spare time I like to focus on fitness and am fully qualified as a junior firefighter.
